Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am looking forward to working with you and your child throughout this school year. I consider it of primary importance that parents are an active part of each child’s education and believe if we work together, we can make this a very successful year.
This year, I aim to provide an exciting and balanced grade three/four program, which will include many opportunities for students to grow and develop their abilities. By educators and parents working together, each child has the ability to reach their potential. To ease in the communication between home and school, I have a class website where you will be able to find important school events, class specific information regarding homework, projects, tests, due dates and the curriculum being covered in class. Hopefully the website will provide you with answers to any questions you may have about our class academics and social events.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Yours Truly
Ms. Taylor

Literacy is a fundamental building block for student success not only in school but in life as well. It will involve every teacher, every parent and every student on the road to life long learning. Our classroom is supported by a balanced literacy program. To further support our program please read with your child for 20 minutes every night. Students will learn responsibility by continuing to complete their reading logs. Completed reading logs will be apart of our classroom rewards system. Please see the following areas of our balanced literacy program that we are further examining:
Ms. Taylor's Library: Students are selected in pairs to go to the library each morning. They will be keeping a log of reading collections. Each student will choose and read a variety of books. Each book must be selected according to the type. These types are: adventure, science. history, poetry, hobbies, realistic fiction, how to books, humourous, mystery, traditional fiction, life stories, art, music, sports, natural world, occupations, math, newspapers, magazines, Canada, First Nations, and Fantasy. This ongoing assignment will be due at the end of the term.
I am very happy to share with you we will be using a fabulous audio video package from Nelson Literacy. These offer a variety of fascinating nonfiction and fiction texts. An audio cd will be accompanying our readings.
Reading: Our main focus is learning to recognize a variety of text forms. We have been learning about non fiction texts and are currently looking at biographies, interviews and information articles. We are also studying the features of texts. Students have also been self selecting a variety of books to read during independednt reading.
Writing: We are starting our good copies of our paragraph writing "What Makes Me Special."
