Hello and Welcome to Grade Seven and the Art Room. I am looking forward to an exciting year!
I encourage you to check our class web-page periodically for important information. Your child's agenda will also be a valuable source of communication about homework, test/quiz dates, class trips or other dates of importance. Monthly school newsletters are available on-line, just click on one of the letter "A"'s above.

One of the most important keys to student success is to be organized and prepared for class. We encourage all students to use an agenda on a daily basis for this purpose. Parents can assist students by checking the agenda daily and helping them to manage deadlines. If students are unable to complete their homework, they should have parents write a note in the agenda. They can also come in early (8:00 am) to complete it or stay in at recess/after school. Extra help is often available at that time (just speak to the subject teacher). Students can also access the Library at some recesses or after school.
An excellent Homework Resource for parents can be found on the Durham District School Board's Web-site. It provides detailed information about how and why homework is helpful, how parents can help students with projects/assignments and a list of study tips to try. I highly recommend it!
Students have completed a chalk pastel art work in the style of "Snowmen at Night", a children's picture book. Now we are working on two Math/Art pieces; Dilations and Tesselations. You should see these coming home for some design work and colouring.
Multiplication and division practice will help students in all strands of math. No calculators will be used for the "Number Sense" strand of math. Students are almost finished centers for Algebra (solving 2 step problems) and Measurement (surface Area). Students are encouraged to seek assistance if they have any questions or need further practice. I am available by 8:00 most mornings.
Math Web Sites: Students have access to a program called "Gizmos" at home for math activities. Here are some fun websites students and parents can visit to practice math concepts;
Mathfrog.ca, www.wiredmath.ca, aaamath.com, transformation golf ,
We are now working on a Structures Unit. The first quiz results went home and the Egg Drop Project has finally been evaluated after they were tossed off the school roof by Ms. Robinson, Mr. McGlynn, and Ms. Johnson. We are now busy writing reports to evaluate the success of our designs.
The Garden Club will resume their meetings in the spring. Thank you to our dedicated gardeners for cleaning and weeding the 3 side garden beds. And, the centre hall planter continues to thrive, thanks to their efforts.
Each year, Eagle Ridge staff devote classroom time to discussing "Character Education" . Once a month we celebrate students who demonstrate positive character traits through our "Golden Eagle" assemblies. Congratulations to the following students; Respect Award: Sheen, Connor, Lauren Empathy Award : Savannah, Chris K., Stefan, Courage Award : Sydney , Krystina, Haley Responsibility: Kenan, James, Honesty: Jillian, Tyler B., Sydnie S., Teamwork: Tommy, Nick S., Chris P., Lauren,
